If you are using a TEAC CDR55S, then you should download the newest Firmware .
If you are using a Philips CDD2600 or an HP 4020, then the well-known grease problem is probably the cause.
If you use Nero in Windows NT with at least SP3 and Nero is either 3.0.2.9 or older, then please update to a newer Nero version.
If you are using an SIS chipset, e.g. the SIS 5591 then it is possible that the busmaster driver does not recognize the CD inserted correctly. With the driver version <siside.mpd> Ver. 1.53c.00 the problem appears to have been solved.
If not, see How do you deinstall a busmaster driver?.
Some types of CD Writer have difficulties writing on CD-R, whose 'Disc Application Code' is set at 'Consumer Audio applications only'. These are special audio CDs. Please change to a different make of CD-R.
If you use an 80 minute CD-R/RW, then some CD Writer have problems with it. For some CD burners this can be solved through a firmware update: Mitsumi 2600TE, Mitsumi 2801TE, Mitsumi 4801TE. For these CD burners, update to the respective newest firmware ."
