Quanta and Reflection X

sorry this is in english but my written danish is pants. i can read danish ok so feel free to write your comments and/or answers in danish.

Redhat 8 as server. using Windows XP with Reflection X to login and run commands on the linux machine - can get xeyes to come up and things like that. but for some reason i cannot get Quanta to run. here's what happens if i try to run it by typing quanta:

[root@linuxmachine Administrator]# quanta
DCOPServer up and running.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QGDict::hashKeyString: Invalid null key
Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0.0".
KCrash: crashing.... crashRecursionCounter = 2
KCrash: Application Name = quanta path = <unknown> pid = 2063
Alarm clock
[root@linuxmachine Administrator]# Mutex destroy failure: Device or resource busy
kdeinit: Fatal IO error: client killed
kdeinit: sending SIGHUP to children.
kdeinit: sending SIGTERM to children.
kdeinit: Exit.

anyway i can fix this and get it to work?

the xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip of the xp machine

thanks for looking in

DCOPServer is KDE specific. Have you tryed under Gnome...just to see if it makes a difference ?

just shut down the webserver, but will give it a go under gnome tomorrow. its a good idea, always worth a try. And Dank here's a link so you can read about reflection x, they dont say much about the product but i like it. Well i tried with xwin32 first and i could not establish a connection - and i tried everything i could think of. After a week of that i tried this and i got a connection and access straight away. anyhoo here's the link http://www.wrq.com/products/reflection/pc_unix/rx/

thanks for the suggestion herlock i will post again tomorrow.

Xlib: extension "RENDER" missing on display "xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0.0".
means that you will need to set your display variable to point to your reflexion box ie.
export DISPLAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:0.0 (where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the ip address of your reflexion box)

I'm running xwin32 against both solaris - tru64 - debian and redhat no problem here.
But reflection x is also nice, just very expensive like excursion aso.

well i guess i will start at the top. i tried under gnome and that gave me the same error message. skau i think you might of misunderstood me. the "xxx.xxx.." is what i wrote to blank out my ip. and the ip its out putting is the ip of the machine i am accessing from. One thing i tired was going back to KDE and to untick the anti-aliasing. That did ne work either. if i run quanta directly from the console and on the linux machine itself (not through reflection) i still get part of the error, but quanta loads. the part of the error i get is:
DCOPServer up and running.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.
QToolBar::QToolBar main window cannot be 0.

and after searching all over the net it seems like everyone has that problem. unfortunatley there i can not find any help on starting quanta from a remote machine. which brings me back to square one. hmm dont know why i am saying "back to square one" because i have never left square one!!

So any new suggestions?

well if no one has any suggestions then i will close this thread. The way i've sloved the problem at the mo is to hook up an extra screen and keyboard to the web-server, so if i'm usin Quanta i just program directly on the machine. Thanks for lookin in.
