Modifying the SuperDAT package to work with AutoUpgrade.
Answer:
At this time, you must modify the SuperDAT package in order to use it with the AutoUpgrade component that comes with Network Associates anti-virus software. Before you start, be sure to download the latest SuperDAT (sdat4xxx.exe) and AUTOUPG.ZIP files from
http://www.nai.com/naicommon/download/dats/superdat.asp. Within the autoupg.zip file are 6 files, and when extracted, creates three different directories with two files each: pkgdesc.ini and setup.iss; the directories created are: alpha\mcafee, x86\mcafee and x86\drsolomon. Modify these files as needed.
To configure for AutoUpgrade, follow these steps:
Rename SDAT4xxx.EXE to SETUP.EXE
Extract PKGDESC.INI, and SETUP.ISS from autoupg.zip and put these two files along with the setup.exe into the directory you will be pointing clients to AutoUpgrade from.
While SETUP.ISS can be a zero-byte file, it can also include the following configuration options:
bReboot - When set to 1, the utility has permission to restart the target computer after the update operation finishes if some files can only be copied after a restart.
bPrompt - When set to 1, a dialog box appears before the target computer reboots.
szLogFile - When szLogFile=, the utility writes its logfile to the specified location.
bForceUpdate - When set to 1, the SuperDAT utility forcibly updates the product components, engine files, and .DAT files regardless of whether those files are up to date.
NOTE: If your upgrade server runs UNIX or another case-sensitive operating system, verify that you have named the PKGDESC.INI file correctly. The AutoUpdate version included with VirusScan anti-virus software for Windows 95 and Windows 98 expects to find a lower-case filename: pkgdesc.ini. VirusScan and NetShield anti-virus software for Windows NT, on the other hand, expect to find an upper-case name: PKGDESC.INI.
