lidt info:
The original drives through to most of the 3rd generation versions were region-free by default, although some drives sneakily had a booby trap if you accidentally removed the RPC jumper (hello Pioneer!). Recent drives however were shipped with RPC-2 as standard and caused great heartache in the process. What I am witnessing now as I trawl the Net is that there are region free firmware upgrades that make your drive RPC-1 if it was RPC-2 to start with or set by accident. These methods are currently being treat with hostility by manufacturers (hello again, Pioneer), but seeing as there is no copyright infringement (as far as I can tell) they are still around to be downloaded. What is their problem? It's not as though the software is pirating DVDs - if anything they are increasing sales of DVD, as more people around the world benefit from the good fortune that the USA have of being the first to have their favourite films digitally. Bear in mind that these are for DOS/Windows systems.

http://etna.rpc1.org/qsi/sbw081/qfsbw081.zipFlashing your drive! (Works only witch real DOS-MODE)
Create a Bootdisk and unzip Flashtool and a firmware to the root directory of the bootdisk.
Boot the system from the disk
First you should make a backup of your current Firmware
A:\> QFSBW081 /OR /Fbackup.bin (Enter)
Now open the file with an HexViewer/Editor and search for "QSI01" after this you find the complete firmware version. IMHO no tool shows this. Download the patched version. Please switch off your computer and start again to flash the new firmware
A:\> QFSBW081 /Ffile.bin (Enter)
The drive will now flashed.
If the flash ended you can reboot the system with new firmware.
Men HUSK:
This is only for advanced users. Bad flashing could destroy your drive definitively. Read carefully the installation notes of your firmware before you upgrade. The Firmware Page and the drive manufacturer can't be responsable on REMEMBER: This is at your own risk!!!!
