Installering af harddisk controller i e-smith
Hej folkens.Jeg har netop købt en Promise Ultra100 tx2 harddisk controller og ifølge dokumentationen skal driverne installeres således:
[INSTALL ULTRA133TX2/100TX2 Series DRIVER INTO AN EXISTING SYSTEM]
1. Make sure you have an unmodified source tree under /usr/src/linux.
2. Issue command to patch source code:
#cd /usr/src/linux
#patch -p1 < ultra1205-2.4.8.patch
3. Make Kernel under /usr/src/linux to create new Linux Kernel with the
Promise information embedded.
#make (menu)config : enable items as follow :
ATA/IDE/MFM/RLL support
IDE, ATA and ATAPI Block devices
<*> Generic PCI IDE chipset support
<*> Generic PCI bus-master DMA support
<*> Use PCI DMA by default when available.
<*> PROMISE PDC20246/62/65/67 chipset support
<*> Special UDMA Feature
#make dep
#make clean
#make bzImage
4. Copy the newly compiled kernel into the boot directory :
#cp /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz-u133
5. Inform the boot loader about the new kernel to edit /etc/lilo.conf as such :
boot=/dev/hda
map=/boot/map
install=/boot/boot.b
prompt
timeout=50
linear (MUST ADD THIS LINE)
**** ADD THIS PART *****
image=/boot/vmlinuz-u133
label=Ultra133
root=/dev/hda1 (your root filesystem)
read-only

6. Also, update LILO by typing 'lilo' you should see an asterisk next to the
label "Ultra133" indicating that LILO is now aware of the new kernel.
7. Reboot. The Promise patch code will be automatically build into kernel.
Mappenavne m.v. på min E-smith server svarer dog ikke til ovenstående beskrivelse, og da jeg er rimelig newbie hvad angår Linux, har jeg ikke den store ide om hvad jeg så skal gøre. Jeg ville sætte pris på, hvis nogen kunne give mig en udførlig vejledning... Patchen jeg gerne vil installere kan findes her:
