Try http://www.coffeecup.com They have a program called applett  password wizard. I can't remember if it is free, but the demo works as far as I remember!

You can set up a very simple cgi script.
The script requires password and username to proceed.
The script uses only 3 files.

try to log in to the members area.
The script is free as long as you give the owner of the scrip some credits.
(There is a few lines in the CGI file, that all. They are not visible to anyone using the script.)
