What exactly is a CHM file? It is, in the parlance, a Compiled Windows Help File. CHM files are the files used by many Microsoft Windows applications (including Windows itself) to provide user assistance. To view a typical CHM file, open Explorer and browse to \"c:\\windows\\help\" (or the equivalent on your machine) and find a file with a .chm extension. Double click on the file and a windows help file will be displayed. The CHM files we are talking about are similar in format and functionality, but display your project\'s data instead of an application\'s help files. And, you can open your file just as easily, by double clicking on its name in Explorer.
In other words, CHM files are complete Internet Web sites that have been assembled into a single compact computer file. Then, after they\'ve been compiled and put in the format you choose, CHM files can be viewed on any PC with Windows and Microsoft\'s Internet Explorer installed. They have the advantages of searchable indexes, favorites marking, and portability. When you are ready to make your presentation they can be delivered directly to your intended audience as electronic media (e-mail, web site download) or you can transport/send the files on a floppy disk, CD-Rom, or Zip Disk. Of course, after the initial programming is complete, they can be easily duplicated and viewed by many different audiences without dependence on an Internet connection.
Thanx for a load of background-info, but I already know how to double-click.
Take a look at the topic of this category - \"Programming, Visual Basic\" - I need to open a CHM file in my visual basic app., and display some of the contents.
Hmmm... det er selvfølgeligt muligt at hente indholdet ind i HTML format - strippe det for tags og gemme det eks. i en access database, så det bliver muligt at søge på, men det er nok noget nær den mest besværlige løsning jeg kan komme i tanke om...
