Windows 2K Server Installation

In my network we have 10 winboxes connected to a domain controller. They use network 10.10.0.0, and subnet mask 255.255.0.0 ( I am not very sure about this, I just know that one box has ip 10.10.51.1 and other box has 10.10.251.1 so therefor I guess the network is 10.10.0.0

Well the thing now is that I want to create a new PDC or Domain Controller in this closed network. I mean 10 boxes and a hub. I do not want to be part of the existing one. So the question is what will separate me from the other domain. So that I dont start pushing ips to all the other machines when I install dhcp server.
Please advice.
Rgds

Do you need to have a DHCP server?
If you do, you have to seperate the networks.

I havent isntall anything yet, I am in the place where you setup the components, Windows2000 Server Setup, Accssroies and Utilities, Certificate Services, Indexing Service etc.....

The question is how to separate the networks, Can you give me an idea of what to call the network and subnet mask?

Just install want you want.
The domain part is after the installation.

When you want another domain in the same network you just make a new one.

Like this: (not completly accurate)
After install it come up with the "configure your server" dialog.
Click on "Active directory" and click install.
Select "A new tree" and then "a new forest"
The you write a name etc.........

Thats it...

(Now don´t blame me if something doesn´t fit quite right. :) )

Remeber not to have two DHCP servers on the network.

If you aren't going to run two DHCP servers, but wan to use static IP addresses, then there won't be a problem.

Give your new 'network' the adresses:

10.11.0.0
With subnet 255.255.0.0

Doing so, will create two logical networks.

Then this will just be another workstation, I thought that by giving other ranges of ip number or subnetmasks I could be separated from the existing hub network.

When a computer loads its TCP/IP protocol, it will make a broadcast to the network, to contact the DHCP server. The first DHCP server to answer, will give the computer an IP address.

If you have two DHCP servers, each "giving away" different IP addresses in different subnets, then you won't be able to control wich computers will get wich IP address.

I think I need to do some reading, I am way too ignorant about the ip addressing thingy.
