Under fanebladet "filtyper" kan man bestemme hvilke ikoner der skal vises for de forskellige typer og hvilket program der skal åbne dem. Så ja det er bare nogle indstillinger han kan ændre på.

Og med hensyn til word dokumenter er det jo så filtyen "doc" han skal kigge på

It can be annoying, and disconcerting, when icons on your
desktop begin looking "odd." They may have odd images, or
simply disappear and have the Windows standard "I do not
know what this is" icon. Sometimes, the Windows icon file
becomes corrupt and needs refreshing. One way to do this is
to delete the icon's cache file. Find the file called
ShellIconCache in the \Windows folder. This file may have
the "Hidden" attribute turned on, meaning DOS will not
allow you to see the file. Within Explorer, right-click the
ShellIconCache file and select Properties. Uncheck the
"Hidden" box. Open a DOS session. Go to the file location
of ShellIconCache from within DOS. Now you will be able to
see Shelli~1 from within DOS (the DOS naming convention for
ShellIconCache). Delete the Shell~1 from within DOS, then
exit DOS. Restart Windows and the cache file will be
rebuilt with all new icons.
