Can I connect non-Creative speakers to my SoundBlaster Live! card?
Our Advice
I Connecting non-Creative speakers to the SB Live! card
We recommend Cambridge Soundworks speakers for optimum enjoyment, however, all major brands of multimedia and hifi powered speakers can be connected to your soundcard. See the speakers page on
http://store.europe.creative.com for details.
Before connecting the speakers to your soundcard, check what type they are:
Active/Powered Speakers: (This type of speaker has its own power supply and onboard volume controls). It should be connected to the Front Line Out (second minijack connector from the midi port) of the card.
Passive Speakers: (This type of speaker has no power supply or batteries). We do not recommend the use of such speakers with the SB Live!, because this soundcard does not have an onboard amplifier.
Headphones: Should be connected to the Front Line Out.
II Connecting two sets of speakers to the SB Live! card
If you have two speaker sets, you can take advantage of the SB Live!'s four speaker functionality and connect one pair of speakers to the Front Line Out and the second set to the Rear Line Out. If you have a speaker set that includes a Subwoofer, connect this to the Front Line Out. If you have two sets that contain Subwoofers, disconnect the subwoofer on the rear set, otherwise the signals will cancel each other out.
