System Down.

Here is the background.
Windows 2000 pc, 40 giga hd. Only one partition.

Wanted:
To have two partitions, I devided the harddrive in two with
partition magic 5.0, no problems whatsoever, I moved the C: partition to the end of the harddrive and I created a new
partition in the free space. Worked fine.

Restarted the computer and for my surprise the pc would still
start up as I guess forgot to make active the partition I just
created. Anyways.

Problem started here.
I used Ghost to move partition to partition so that c: would be copied to d: and this did not happend, what happend was that the
empty partition was copied to the windows partition, and C: was wiped out.

Installed WinXP on the new created partition d: as it became default drive.

Question
Is there a possible way to save, recover any of the lost info from c:, the drive hasnt been formated nor rewriten yet.

HELP This can cost my balls.

You should try using GetDataBack from runtime

I can't really recommend any other software at this point since my experience says that you will have more success using GetDataBack then any other product's out there.

Why are you mailing them? And yes it should work as you have not rewritten new data on the partition.. that's good.

GetDataBack is probably most recommended data recovery software here on Eksperten and it works fine  a lot of the times:)

Depends on your file system is it FAT?  og probably  NTFS right?
Then it's quite easy because I did not recommend any software on there site, but GetDataBack.. and they only have 2 versions of this software. One for Fat and one FOr NTFS. It's the two first produkts on the site.:)

LOL:o) Well I'll say you should have good chances for atleast recovering some.
Else we will have to try some other software. It wont damage the partition.

But let's hope GetDataBack is fine.. it's better then the other software so it doesn't work chances are not that good:(

To the best of my knowledge, you have to buy the product to recover the files.
But i don't expect that it will be able to even see the files. Can you see any files ?

Generel speaking:
I don't think you will have any luck with your attempts to recover your files.
The reason for this, is that you copied a partition over an existing partition and by doing that you overwrote the partition table, with a new one.
Recovery tools works best if you accedently deleted files or partitions, as the data is still on the disk, just not accessible. By physically examining the disks the recovery tools can recover partitions and files by simply changing the "bit" that says that this partition or file is deleted. (popular speaking)
The problem her is that you did overwrite that area, so i don't see how a recovery tools can find any information.

Hopefully i am wrong, but i don't think so.

hmm I have seen it been used it other topic's without people having to register!
In that case I can only recommend this free software
http://www.pcinspector.de/file_recovery/UK/welcome.htm

and hopefully this can locate the same files

the worse is that there are files which come in the "Lost" folder with extenssion .doc and I can not open, some of them are .doc but in reality are excel files, very weird.
