Is it my graphicscard that genetrate this error?

Hello!

I have created a small Java class that will be used as a EJB at the end. The class craetes a image om the server side.

But at my computer I often get this message and no image is created:

Fail to create hardware D3D Device, switch to use reference rasterizer. - D3DERR_OUTOFVIDEOMEMORY

I guess my graphic cards run out of memory but I'm not sure. Does any body know why I get this and what can I do to avoid it?

It feels a bit risky to deploy it on a customer server.

Best regards
Fredrik

1)  I would recommend that you find a solution that does not depend on
the graphics card at all. You never know what servers have of graphics cards.
What graphics cards do an IBM zSeries mainframe have ? :-)
2)  I do not think doing this in an EJB is prohibited by the EJB spec, but that
is probably only due to lack of imaginations. I think this should be done
in web container or a JCA adapter.

Hello Arne!

2) I should then start to study JCA-adapter. Thanks!!
The idea with a EJB would be to have one general ejb that might be called from several webapplications. Instead of have the lib on several locations.

1) But I guess you agree with me that the message is relataed to the capability of the graphicscrad then? I guess I can not control it from my code then, only to make sure the code is so efficient as it can be.

re 2)

JCA can provide that too.

re 1)

I do not know for sure. Impossible to tell without seeing code (and possible
checking what the packages you use actually do).

It is very common for Java graphics code to rely on AWT classes. And about
as common to get problems due to the same.

So it is not unlikely.

And the error message makes it very likely.
