Well, there are many issues with using the Quickplay partition on a new system... and it may not work at all if the hardware has changed much from the systems that were supported by Quickplay. But for those who really want the functionality, you can give it a try, by following these steps.

1. Create your restore DVDs if you haven't already.

2. Open Disk Management tool. Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Storage -> Disk Management. You should see your C: drive as well as the Restore Partition.

3. Right click on the restore partion, and select "Delete volume." You'll need to confirm this action.

4. Now select your C:, right click and select "Extend Volume". Extend the C: drive to take up all but EXACTLY 1028 MB of disk space. You should be able to take the maximum that Vista offers and just subtract 1028 from that number. When the process is finished, you should have just a C: drive and 1028 MB of unallocated space. Do NOT create a new partition in that free space. Just leave it be. You can now exit the Computer management control panel.

5. Go to http://www.notebookforums.com/post2458021.html and download the 9 files that make up the Quickplay 2.3 partition installer. Use WinRAR or a similar program to extract the full HPQPDP directory. It's roughly 724 MB total.

6. Run Setup.exe from within the HPQPDP directory. This will create a partition in the free space on your hard drive, and install Quickplay.

There are 2 main errors you may encounter when attempting the install. The first is an error telling you that your system is not Quickplay compatible. If that's the case, you may be SOL unless someone here with your system can figure out the model ID and get it added -- and even then you may have problems with your hardware config once you get Quickplay installed. The second error is a ComponentMoveData error, which means the installer doesn't like the way your hard drive is partitioned. You MUST have just a C: drive (no secondary data partition) and EXACTLY 1028 MB of unallocated space following the C: drive otherwise you WILL get this error. If you get this error, open back up the Disk Management utility and make sure that your drive is setup correctly.
