winnt and win98

Hi, I am setting up a local network between two of my computers, they both have twisted pair netcards.  Now the thing is I don't know how to set it up.  I only have the twisted pair cable and no HUB, what should I do, and please give me a discription of the network settings that I should use. thank you

I do not know, which operating system you work in, anyway :) under Propetiers for TCP/IP the IP adresses have to be close to eachother, i.e.

195.111.111.1 for the master
195.111.111.2 for the slave (other machine)

AND REMEBER! The Undernet Mask have to be 255.255.255.255

Furthermore you have to have Clientprogram for Microsoft Network installed, the TCP/IP and IPX/SPX protocols as well.

Under Propetiers for your netcard, the Bindings have to be checked in at least TCP/IP.

Let Windows install both netcards automatic ( do not change the configuarations, unless they conflict )

I hope this helps you, otherwise I will gladly answer ANY questions at

The answer from Phylox2 just needs a little correction:

The subnetmask does not have to be 255.255.255.255, as long as it is the same number on both machines.
You don't have to install the IPX/SPX.

You wrote that you haven't got a HUB, and that's not necessary. Just make sure that your TP-cable is a "crossed" cable. If it is a crossed cable it should say so somewhere on the cable or else ask in the shop where you jbought it.

:) I know, that the IPX/SPX protocol is not nessesary for the network to work in Windows, but it might come in handy when playing games ect. ;)

And ad hjensen answered! remebmer the crossed cable type, otherwise you might burn of your netcards ;( and we do not want that to happen, do we
