Dear Customer,
Thank you for contacting ATI Technical Support.
Based on our experience, TV output issues are usually due to system
configuration errors and we believe that the following steps could solve
your problem.
1. To output the computer display to the TV or VCR.
For recording purposes, you will want to play your video file Full
Screen and enable TV out. If you would also like to output sound from the
computer to the TV, then please visit
http://support.ati.com/connectors/common/connect_tvout_audio.html for
details on how to attach the cables correctly.
2. Maximum resolution.
Ensure that you set the maximum resolution to a value of 800 X 600,
as that is the maximum resolution a television will support. If your desktop
is set to a higher resolution, you may experience a "virtual desktop" -
screen size is larger than the actual screen size and the mouse is needed to
scroll around to see everything. To eliminate this, either disable TV out,
disconnect the TV, or lower the resolution to a maximum of 800 X 600.
3. Black borders around picture on TV screen
This symptom may occur with TV SETS that have picture SIZE controls that are
adjusted to extremes. Adjusting the TV controls should resolve the problem.
If the problem persists you can determine if the problem lies with the TV
SET, as follows;
* Connect a VCR to the TV using the composite or SVIDEO cable.
* Play a movie on the VCR.
If the movie also displays a border, then the TV SET must be adjusted - if
possible - so that the movie actually fills the screen.
4. Black and white picture using tv ouput with a TV set
This symptom may occur if:
1. The TV output is set to an incorrect country standard:
To ensure that the correct Country Standard is selected please do the
following:
Go to Start, Settings, Control Panel.
Click on the Display icon.
Select the icon DISPLAYS
Please ensure that your television is connected, activate the TV OUT button
and click on Apply.
Please Double click on the TV Button to enter into the Setup.
Click on FORMAT.
Under " Select By Country", please ensure that your country has been
selected.
Click on Apply.
You can check the Format ie. the TV country standard by re-entering into the
setup as before.
2. You are using an S-vhs cable in conjuction with a Scart adapter.
5. No TV display connecting TV out through a VCR
Whenever possible, eliminate the VCR from the circuit by connecting the TV
directly to the graphics card - not all TV's have the required connectors.
This will establish whether TV out is functioning appropriately. If it is,
re-connect the VCR and proceed.
* Check the VCR for an "input select" function or switch.
* The VCR MUST be configured to accept a signal from an
external source, i.e. the input jacks rather than its own internal tuner.
* In some cases, the switch will be available on the front
panel of the VCR, in others, the remote control will be required. In some -
rare - cases, the VCR may need to be in "record" mode in order to accept a
signal from an external source.
* The TV must also be configured to accept a signal from the
VCR. In some cases, this means tuning to channel three. Some TV's have a
dedicated "video" mode, accessible from the front panel or the remote
control.
For additional information, refer to the Owner's Manual for the VCR and the
television. If problems persist, experiment with some OTHER "known good"
source of video, such as a camcorder, to make sure you can get a signal from
the input jacks on the VCR to the TV screen.
6. If movies appear BRIGHT and then DIM…
… while watching DVD on a Television, please visit

issue. This is not a limitation of ATI graphics cards.
