VNC over TDC and A TRENDNET TEW-431 - Problem over the Internet.

Hi ...

I have a TEW-431 BRP where I am running 2 wireless computers on the Internet. One Desktop and one Laptop.

I have set up Real VNC so I can control the Desktop over the LAN when I am sitting in the livingroom and the desktop is in the office. This works.

I now want to set Real VNC up so I can access and control the desktop over the Internet so I can actually help my kids or my wife when I am out travelling for my company / job.

The problem is that it does not work when I am trying over the Internet.

I am using a ADSL line where NO logon is needed - It is always open.

When I am accessing www.myip.dk or looking in "REMOTE ADMINISTRATION" in the Router I am seing that my Internet adress is 87.xx.xx.xxx.

I am not an expert of this but I assume that this is the IP of the router .. Not the actualt 2 maschines I have on the LAN

On the LAN the ROUTER has xxx.xxx.x.xx the desktop has xxx.xxx.x.xx and I cannot remember what the Laptop has.

Then I have forwarded the PORTS 5500, 5800 and  5900 to the desktop (xxx.xxx.x.xx) in the setup of the ROUTER  both TCP and UDP. These are the ports that VNC are using.

Then I tryed to take over the control of the DESKTOP when  was not home, by accessing the 87.xx.xxx.xxx IP Adress and was expecting the router to forward the request from VNC to the Desktop as I have set it up but I do not get any response - This Failed.

I then tried to PING the 87.xx.xxx.xxx over the internet and I do not get a response - Timeout on the request. And I have set the router up so i SHOULD answer these pings. (There is an option)

SO.. My question is..... what am I doing wrong ....??? It would be a HUGE help if you could help me here - I am sure that it is something easy that I have overlooked, as I am not a very good expert on Internet and LAN's ...

I can also say that I am running Windows XP on both computers and the firewall in XP on the desktop is NOT activated.

Thanks in advance for the help

Are the only router you have the Trendnet ? Are the line a TDC Pro eller TDC private ?

LEIF ... Yes .. The only router is my Trendnet .. and I actually do not lknow whether it is TDC Pro or TDC Private .. It is a line that my company has installed as I am often working from home ...

Do you have an idea about what could be the issue here ..?

Yes, that can be a issue. Because if you have directly access to the company network you can't do it.

When you log in to the router you should have a place where you can see stauts on WAN, there should be an IP address. What do the IP address say ? Just the 2 first numbers.

Leif .. I have full access .. It is a line that are put into my house and I can see the status in my router and it gives me the full IP Adress .. starting with 87. ..

This is the IP that I have been trying to access via VNC but no sucess ...

Even if I try to PING it I do not get an answer .....

So . I have directe access to the router and full administrative rights of he 2 PC's and also the router .. I can set whatever I want ...

Does this help .?

Leif .. This has nothing to do with my Company's network.

It is my LAN at home, where I have one PC, behind the Router, that I want to control with Real VNC. Especially when I have to help the Kids or the Wife with something WHEN I am travelling for my Company.

Then I want to have the access through the INTERNET.

This does not go through the Company Network. My company has asked TDC to put in the 2MB line in my house so I can access the Internet and through VPN I can then access the company internet. But this is ONLY when I am at home and something that I start up from my Laptop when I am sitting at my desk in my homeoffice.

So here it is only access through the Router to

my damilys Desktop computer from an external computer. Thanks

Leif .. I have actually enabled the option in the Router so it should be possible to get an answer from it ... But NO....

You will not get i answer on the external IP if you are on the LAN

I can when I am home later today send you a little file, that you can start and I will get access diretly to your machine. When the application close I will not have access to your machine anymore. Or dependig where you are living you could come by you and help you.

If you give me access through the Remote System you can follow anything I am doing and the work are made in confidentiality that I am working as a System Administrator in my daily work.

Leif .. I am NOT sitting on the LAN when I am trying to PING the external Router I am doing that from my laptopn here at my office.

Thank you very much for you suggestion but I am not allowed to let anyone into my network - Says my New Administrator at my job .. Too risci ...

But THAKS anyway ...

Does that mean thta you do not have anymore sggestions.. ??

If you have forwardet the ports to the correct internal IP it should work, unless your company have asked TDC to make a special configuration of your internet connection. The best you can do know is to confirm with your Administrator that there are no special configuration or you are in a MPLS network.

Leif .. There is NO special configuration .. It is a stamdard TDC Line ... Nothing fancy .. That is also WHY I do not understand this ...

Try to open 5800 to 5805 and 5900 to 5905

MEN . MEn NO LUCK.

Are it a XP with SP2 you are trying to connect to ? Confirm that VNC have access through the internal FireWall (Should be if you can connect to it on the LAN)
Avatar billede thth Nybegynder
19. maj 2006 - 16:21 #22
Leif .. Yes .. XP .. SP2 .. No firewall is active ... I have also just arrived at home ... I can ping the externap IP from my LapTop which ios mow on the LAN .. But I cannot from my Neighbours PC via the Internet.

What the FUCK is wrong ..????

Avatar billede thth Nybegynder
19. maj 2006 - 17:14 #24
helgec .. Men JEG VED BARE IKKE HVAD.......

pc1...router..internet.....MODEM...pc2  can be a problem...if you connect FROM pc1 .to pc2

try the other way around FROM pc 2 to PC 1....start "new connection" after starting "run listening VNC Viewer" ..insert PC1 IPadresse
WHILE the serverpart are running at pc1.

that works for me when I cant get i to work...

IF You hare 2 routers i the configuration...It would not work.. befor the routers are propperly configured.
