You can get HP Tape Tools Diagnostic Software at ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/information_storage/software/tapetool.exe
Maybe that will help you.

You can however get a diagnostics program for it:

http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/get_doc.pl?SNI=hpc1534add9624&LC=information_storage&Tfile=lpg50123

Are you sure that the drive is terminated probably? And that all your SCSI connections/cabels are ok?
Have a look at these links:

But do you need a driver?

If you need a driver (and maybe there is no driver on the net because you dont need it) Then I guess that you\'ll have to contact HP.
Do you have a manual for the drive?
Are you sure that it has been mounted probably?
What operatingsystem are you using?

Go to this site and try the general DDS-1 driver:
http://www.hp.com/cgi-bin/cposupport/swindex.pl?p=hpc5737add11097&l=en&c=Driver
That should work with your drive.

For more options go to:

f7>> I don\'t think HP bothered to do a win98 driver for the drive. Realy no reason to do so, because it\'s intended for serious companies and there servers, thus only drivers for NT and Win2K.

No, worst case is that you have to start windows i troubleshoting mode and remove the driver again, but that is mostly when you are messing with videocards. Normally you can just remove the driver again, if the drive does not work.

NO.
I know the program and it checks if the drive is alright, can read/write.

I don\'t think there are drivers included.
But normaly, your backup program should recognice the drive. Have you installed any drivers, for the SCSI controller?

So the problem is not the drive, but the controller, at first!
Look for the name or number on the lagest chip!
Does it state any numbers?

Do you have the HP drive on the same controller as your burner?
And if so, have you set the SCSI ID correctly?

F7 > Have you installed the SCSI card physsically?
And if so, did Windows find the card? Is it an ISA or PCI card?

I still belive that it\'s a problem with the drive termination.
