How do you do this, using your own method or Access\'s

Jeg bruger access\'s ellers udemærkede brugerstyrring i denne databse

You mayneed to copy the system.mdw to each of the PC\'s your using. You should actually make a copy and place this along side your application, and then start Access using a shortcut.

The workgroup file (system.mdw) is a GLOBAL file for ALL Access applications on a PC, not just yours. So when you create Groups and users there is information which gets stored here. When you copy you Access application to other PC\'s the system.mdw on that PC is now in operation.

So as I said, make a copy inth eapplication folder and use this with your application.

Allright then, now i know what file we are talking about, but do you know annything about this topic when i have a database placed on a server from where several different users are accessing information from this one file.

Does every computer still use there own mdw?

Cause then i think i have the sollution my self.

There is more than likely a program named
WRKGADM.EXE on the PC too. If you run this it will tell you which workgroup (system.mdw) file your using. Copy this file to your applictation folder. Then run the WRKGADM.EXE program and press Join and change it to th system.mdw file for the application.

You can place this file on the server. Then use a shortcut to start your application.
It will look something like this.
Ass you can see it actually starts Access with some parameters one of them tells it which system.mdw file to use

\"C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office\\MSACCESS.EXE\" /runtime \"D:\\Building Maintenance\\BuildingMaintenance.MDB\" /wrkgrp \"D:\\Building Maintenance\\system.mdw\"

Hey Terry - this \"system.mdw\" file, is that a file just for acces or does this file actually operate in other programes as well?

It is used with Access databases. For example if I had a secure database without Access installed I could use Visual basic or any other program capable of accessing Access databases. In this case I would still have to have access to the system.mdw file. So in other words it is used with Access databases.

Er der andre måder jeg kan lave brugerkonti på?

cgleerup>Yes but why would you want to do that if you already use Access\'s? You can have a table which contains user/group infromation, but then you have to program your application to take this into account. If you are using Access\'s then this does it all for you (for free).
Do you have a problem uisng it?

Terry> Try to take a look at this page - do i have a roblem using it - hmmmf - i may have some troubles.

My question at the moment will be something like this: 15:39:49 yesterday - you wrote some tags for a startup command, and then said i did not need the runtime parameter - that actually maked me a bit confused, but can you explain this starupline with this example.

I place my acces file at the server as well as i place my mdw file at this server - now, how do i start this accesfile with the right mdw file?

let\'s use the letter Y:\\ for serverdrive name in this example - if you can help here

\"C:\\Program Files\\Microsoft Office\\Office\\MSACCESS.EXE\"  \"Y:\\YourApplicationFolder\\YourDatabase.MDB\" /wrkgrp \"Y:\\YourApplicationFolder\\system.mdw\"

You may need to alter the location of Access.EXE and obviously the other parts. Then you right click on the desktop select new+shortcut and then cut and paste the text into the command line. Easy ikke?

Perfect, if this works i will be verry happy!

Can i really make an empty space between the two tag lines like you have done in this example.

If i understand you right, then i just have to add this two lines to a shortcut that can be placed at my desktop - right?

i will try that - thank you one more fore youre quick response!

There is actually only one line. Eksperten adds new lines! But yes you can have spaces between each part

If it works then remember it is THIS system.mdw you have to use when altering user/group permissions etc.
