- This is not an isolated problem, I am experiencing it to on one of my Win2K Pro workstations. What you need to know is that all of the uninstalling and rebooting are not going to fix this. Neither is speculating as to what might fix it.

Windows 2000 should have version 6.4.2600.0 of this file, but (possibly after installing WMP, version 4.90.3000.0 (Windows ME version) is installed, and it barfs big time.

If you can find a copy of version 6.4.2600.0 of msdmo.dll, install it in the \System32 folder and things should work just fine. This worked for me, in fact I just did this as I was writing this post.

A: It's a file version problem. Rename the file msdmo.dll on your system to "msdmo.bak" (msdmo.dll should be in system32, since you'd be running into this on a WinMe -> Win2K upgrade) and then reinstall WMP on top of your existing install - this will expose the special Reinstall All option that is the best option for trouble-shooting. [File version should be "4.90.3000.0" on the bad file.]
