Hi Hugo!
I know NOTHING about DES other than there are restrictions out of the U.S on its use!
There are various programs which could do the encryption for you but I have a feeling you want to do it yourself. I have found a site where you MAY find something of use but I havent looked too closely at it.

ftp://ftp.internat.freebsd.org/pub/FreeBSD/
and take a loo at the README.TXT

The actual link I used is http://www.freevbcode.com/ShowCode.Asp?ID=3779

I am using the encryption when distributing licencefiles for my Access applications. I generate a file with the companyinformations and a licenceexpirationdate ( and some other stuff ) that the enduser is to read into the application before it can run.
The last problem I have to deal with is how to distribute the decryption key to the enduser without compromising the security.

Hi hugo>Well you may know that when you re-new a credit card they send the card in one envelope and a few days later they send the codes. So this is a way of doing it with your system too! But is it necessary to go to so much trouble? You could actually use Winzip to make a file and give it a password that the customer knows.

The reason for all this trouble is that I don't want other than my paying  customers to be able to use my apps :-)
This I do by handling the licence in a file with the informations and in order to be sure that someone doesn't 'just' edit this file and change the information to reflect his companysetup, it needs to be encrypted.
The Danish ERP system Navision handles its licences in the same way - mine is a simpler version of that.

Are you active on M$ Messenger ?

Ok, makes sence :o)
Ref. Messanger, yes "I THINK" I am but I have never used it.
I'm a bit behind with all this new tech.
