harddisk problem

When you ran fdisk to repartition your disk, did you say yes to \"Support large disks\" ? Otherwise, try to reformat, running fdisk with this option

if i format my pc then it i  still just the 2 gb i can format.could that NTFS be the probmlem?
win2000 is still somewere in my pc.isnt there some
way to format the whole disk?

What comes up when you run fdisk?

if i want to enable large disk support ( Y )

1.create dos partition or logical dos driver
2.set active part.
3.delete part. or logical dos
4.display part. infrom

then other option
can you help me throuh this step by step plz

3. Delete partition, choose delete non-dos partition....

keep deleting partitions until there are no more...

If you has created a partition under your w2000 installation and you the use win95/98 boot disk with fdisk i don\'t think this will work.

You should boot on the win 2000 cd and then delete and create partitions under this installation senario.

Question, that \"brain\" already mentioned.

If you select \"N\"o at this point, your disc size will be limited to the 2Gig, that you describe.

..though a faulty Jumpering of an IBM Harddisk to \"legacy mode\" may cause the same problem....

All considered - the obvious solution would be to run FDISk again, say \"Y\"es to the \"large disk support\" question, delete the old 2GB partition (-that sequence is rather logical if you read the prompts.

- then, when everything is deleted (check this by option 4/5 - display part. info.)

When you\'re sure you\'ve got a clean sheet, then select
1.Create dos par....
and 1.Create Primary...
It should automatically suggest \"do you wish to use the maximal size, and set the partition active\".
a Yes to this and that, and you should have a 4GB partition.......if \"yes\" restart, and proceed with format..

If NO!! ....and i fear that will be the outcome, then i\'ve got two \"workarounds\" for you

The first:
Fdisk again...leave the primary 2GB partition as is, and select
1. Create dos part....
Then \"Create extended dos partition\" - set size to the remaining space (2GB)
..once the \"extended partition\" is created, then you must create a \"Logical DOS drive\" on this partition, this will normally initiate automatically. if not  - then you initiate..

This solution should after a Format D: leave you with two 2GB Partitions.

The Second:
Use a Third party \"partition Manager\" as e.g. \"Partition Magic\" from PowerQuest.
This software is indeed powerful, and it is presented in a very User friendly (windows like) environment, where you can freely set your partition size, Cluster size ec. etc.
