In the 1980s, a computer scientist named Bjarne Stroustrup took C and
added to it features of another, older language called Simula 67 in order
to create a language that would allow him to easily simulate things he
was working on. This new language, seen as an incremental advance over
C, was dubbed C++ because it "added one" to C. (In C, if you want to add
1 to a variable, say x, you use two plusses: x++)
C++ is fast becoming extremely popular because it has many attributes of
an Object Oriented Programming language, yet it retains the efficiency and
simplicity of original C. In fact, any C program is supposed to be able
to compile and run under any C++ system since C is a subset of the new
language.
