Why can't access my WLS webserverfrom an other computer?

Hello!

I have a small lan at home.
One PC with Windows 2000 (192.168.0.153    laptop)
One PC with Mandriva 2008 (192.168.0.105 linux)

Both computer can ping each other and I can exchange file through samba.

On the linux computer I got a WebLogic running on port 7001
On the laptop coumputer I got a Orion running on port 80

From linux I can access the Orion server like:
http://192.168.0.153

But from laptop I can not access the WebLogic in any way for eg:
http://192.168.0.105:7001

I just get "The page cannot be displayed"

I do not got any firewalls or anything in between.

So if any one could help me out how to access my webservers at the linux coumputer within in my own network it would be great!

Best regards
Fredrik

are you sure weblogic is running on port 7001 since you can access it from linus without typing a port in your http request or did you just leave out that part by accident?

you could also test accesability on a specific port by using telnet. You should get some html output back if you type a few letters and press enter. If that's not the case it seems like the port is wrong or blocked.

Hello!

Thanks for your replies!

Your first comment - No, with this:
From linux I can access the Orion server like:
http://192.168.0.153
... I meant that I can access the Orion server at my Windows (laptop) from my linux. Since Orion runs on port 80 I do not need to type the port.
But the other way around I can not access the WLS.

I think you got a point that perhaps port 7001 at my linux might be blocked. But I can access it within the linux like 127.0.0.1:7001.

Do you, by any chance, know how to open a port at linux?

Best regards
Fredrik

No i don't. And it shouldn't be necessary to open the port if you don't use a firewall, as you say... but have you tried telnetting from windows.

Hello!

From windows to linux I get no connection on ports that I have servers (8080, 7001, 7011).
But from Linux to windows I get:
telnet> open 192.168.0.153 80
Trying 192.168.0.153...
Connected to 192.168.0.153 (192.168.0.153).
Escape character is '^]'.
Connection closed by foreign host.
[root@localhost fredrik]#

I got a server at port 80 in Windows.

then you must have a firewall or something that is blocking incoming traffic on these ports on you linux box
