Has my PC crashed?

Hello guys!

I have just moved my PC with Ubuntu to my garage.
Yesterday at the new spot, it started fine.

But to day I must say that what I thought was the fans there were a "screaching" noise from it. (Sometimes it has done that noise, and I thougt it was from the fans inside). How ever it started up, but when I tried to interact I realized that neither the keyboard or mouse where active.

I first pushed the rest-button, but after that it just starts and seems not to give any signal to the screen either. I have tested with two screens, but neither one gives any respond from the computer.

Worst case, the harddrive has crasched, perhaps it was that one that gave the "screaching"-noise as a last thing to do?

Do you got any ideas how to error search this machine?

When I start it I do not think that I hear the harddrive working. If I remember correct there use to be some more noise from it during start up.

All ideas are most welcome.

Best regards
Fredrik

I just saw that my keyboard actually flashes during startup, with booth the cd-inside and without, but nothing else happens.

As I said, all ideas are most welcome!

Remove the hard drive and try again. If nothing happens try to replace the RAM. Or if you have more then one block, try one block after another.

Hello Jorn!

Fisrt test, I unplugged the harddrive, and restarted with the cd inside, but still nothing happens.

I also tried to start it without the install-cd inside, but same as before.

Does the above test tell me something? Good news would be if you said, taht the harddrive might be OK?

Do you think that I should re-plug-in the harddrive again during the RAM-test?

Btw thanks for your time!

Best regards!

Hello Jorn!

I removed one RAM of two RAM, and then it started from the harddrive!!!

Mange tak!!

Does this tell me that one of the RAM-memory just is corrupted?
Or worst case one of my slots at the motherboard is corrupted?

Best regards
Fredrik

You can test it on another PC. Plug it into USB.
No you dont need to put the harddrive back testing the ram.
Are you sure that the cpu fan are running?

If you take the ram blog that works, and put it in the other slot, and it still works, then the slot is ok, and the ram blog is ruined.
