Use a SQL statement instead of a table
Select Left("TheField", 100) AS PartOfAField

WHY do you need to show a memo field in a combo? A memeo field is normally for LARGE amounts of data which could contain similar characters at the start so having them in a combo desnt really have any purpose!

you place the select in the row source for the combo, If you place the cursor in the row source property a little box with ... on it appears to the right. Press that to come into th equery builder.

Here you can alter the query to only select the first 255 characters.

255 OR how many characters you want!

OK! but a memo field can contain 65,536 characters a text field only 255 but isnt 255 enough?
