Vil du ikke prøve at forklare det med at slå det fra, kan ikke lige hitte ud af det med F3 og avanceret...

Jeg sidder lige nu ved en Windows 98, der ikke har den funktion.

Men ifølge Mirosoft:

Turn off the Indexing Service
To turn off the Indexing Service, follow these steps:
Start an Office XP program or Publisher 2002.
On the File menu, click Search.
Under Other Search Options, under Fast searching is enabled, click Search options.

NOTE: If Fast searching is enabled does not appear, fast searching is not installed.
To turn off the Indexing Service and leave the catalog files intact, click No, do not enable Indexing Service, and then click OK.

-or-
To turn off the Indexing Service and delete the catalog files, click Advanced, click Delete, and then click Yes.

NOTE: In Windows 2000, Delete appears on the Action menu. Select the catalog and then click Delete.

"To disable the Indexing service, open Computer Management from Administrative Tools (on the Start menu if you enabled this, or from the Control Panel), select Services and Applications, double click Services, and find the Indexing Service. Double click to bring up the Properties window, and click Stop to let Windows stop the service. Then from the Status type drop down box select Disabled."

Jeg kan ikke huske hvordan det med F3 og avanceret er.. Men man trykker F3 for at få søgninen frem. Derefter kan man, i venstre side af vinduet, vælge noget med indstillinger og avanceret. Prøv at kigge der.
