Error message when trying to join a new computer to the domain

I have a Windows 2003 domain, and I am trying to join a new Windows XP pro computer to the domain. But when I try to join the domain I get the error message; "The following error occured attempting to join the domain 'dev' : The account is not authorized to log in from this account." What does this mean ? I have tried dofferent pc's, but I get the same error message. Can anyone please help me ?

it means that the user who tries to join the domain, needs to have administrator rights, a normal user isn´t allowed to make these changes.

Hi! The most likely cause of this error, is almost always that the DNS settings on you Windows XP client computer is not setup correctly!

Please check that the Primary DNS Server on the client computer is set to the Domain controller of the "dev" domain!

But what "screem brille" says is not quite correct - as I remember (I could be wrong) - you need only to be member of the "Domain Users" Security Group - to be able to join a Computer to the domain. This is the default setting for WIndows Server 2003 AD Domains. A "Domain Users" member can join up to 10 Client computers to a domain. But to be sure - then (as Screem Brille suggests) try joining the computer with a "Domain Administrator" member!

I also think that the dns settings are correct because it is received from the dhcp server, but I will take a look at it.. Any other ideas what can cause this error message  ?

Have you made any restrictions to the dev\administrator account? I know one can make these on one of the tabs of the user properties in ADUC.

You can specify on user accounts - witch computers the specified user can logon to.

Look under the users properties - under "Account" click the "Logon to"... If you specified any computer accounts here - you have restricted the user to ONLY logon to the specified computers!

I have fixed it. The problem was that another admin had changed the SMB signing settings on the domain controller... The first person that gives me an answer will get the points...(so I can close this issue..) :)
