Problems connnecting to your Shared Storage drive?
Verify your physical/network connection
1. Make sure the power light (at the top of the three lights), on your Shared Storage drive, is solid green. If it is not solid green, this indicates that the drive is not receiving power. Check your power cables.
2. Make sure the Ethernet light (at the bottom of the three lghts), on your Shared Storage drive, is solid or blinking green. This indicates network activity. If it is not on, this indicates a physical connection problem.
3. Check the lights on your router (or switch). There should be a light that indicates link (or connection) status that will show communication with your Shared Storage drive.
4. Make sure you can communicate with your Shared Storage drive from the command line. Click the Start menu and select Run... Type PING MSS-XXXXXXX (where "X" is denoted by an alpha numeric character, for example, 1 or A). You should get a response from your Shared Storage drive indicating the IP Address of the drive. This response confirms that your Shared Storage drive is connected to your network.
5. Make sure that your Shared Storage drive is connected to your router. Try connecting the Ethernet cable to a different port on your router.
6. Try a different Ethernet cable to connect your Shared Storage drive to your router.
7. Make sure your computer is connected to your network, with a wired (using an Ethernet cable) or wireless connection. If you are using both types of connections on your computer, try disabling one. It is recommended that you disable your wireless connection before disabling your wired connection.
8. Try connecting an Ethernet crossover cable directly from your Shared Storage drive to your computer.
Note: a crossover cable is a special type of Ethernet cable you can purchase at many computer stores.
For more information, see `If your network uses Static IP Addressing.'
8. Check your router for DHCP entries of your Shared Storage drive.
9. Check if MAC filtering is enabled on your router. If it is enabled, you will need to add the MAC Address for your Shared Storage drive to your router's MAC filter list. This is necessary for your router to allow your Shared Storage drive access to the network.
See the user guide of your router for more information.
