Tiny windows 98

er det ikke win ce du tænker på...

Nej. Det er en version af windows 98, som kun skulle fylde ca 16 mb, men det kan da godt være det er ce? Kan man godt bruge ce på en workstation?

hvem har fortalt dig det? kan de ikke hjælpe med et link? Tror ikke helt på det!

Det er ctacta der skriver det. Han ved en del om OS, så jeg tror på det, men det kan være den hedder noget andet end tiny. Ctacta, er ogsp skribent for Alt Om Data, så tror at kilden er god nok.

Ohh..just found this..perhaps ye might be interested..sound nice though. it's called 98Lite furthermore it's available as  XPLite and 2000Lite, however, back to windows 98 here a list of things 98lite can.

Kan man med de små installationer, f.eks kører spil, eller installations filer?

Har lige kigget lidt på de links de skrev. http://www.embeddingwindows.com/, det er det jeg søger, men hvor kan man downloade softwaret, eks trail?

I am sorry, I really don't know where ye can download a trail for  http://www.embeddingwindows.com/, I think it's merely a page explanin' what EOS is...however I might be wrong. Nevertheless, there is a trail for 98lite.

Jeg kan ikke forstå readme filen til 98lite særligt godt, synes den er dårlig formuleret. Men jeg forstå den sådan at man kun kan få en win98 ned på ca 50 mb med en micro installation, og hvis man kører den så skla man lige pludselig bruge enwin95 cd? Kan du evt. hjælpe mig der?

I am truly very sorry mate, but I haven’t got a computer which I can test it on. I could look at the readme file though. Could ye please provide me with it?

By the way, I believe one can get his windows size down to 4-5MB, however, then the one will have to run some win95 components, plus compress some of the .exe and .dll files

Automatic Installation
=======================

All the work is done for you, if you prefer or require a
customized setup like an OEM or VAR installation where the
Windows CAB files are left on the installed system for fast
re-configuration skip to "Manual Installation' otherwise:

· from Windows or DOS execute the 98lite archive; it will
  require you to enter your Registration Key and then
  self-extract; the default directory is C:\98lite

· navigate to the temporary directory and execute or 'click'
  on 98LITE.EXE to initialize the setup

· follow the on screen prompts to automatically build a Setup
  directory

I believe one only needs the Windoes 95 CD when installing manually, but still I could be wrong.

Manual Installation
===================

· from Windows or DOS execute the downloaded archive and extract
  the 98lite files to any valid DOS partition on your hard
  drive; if you already know that you have or want the Windows
  Setup files on your system (typically C:\Windows\Options\CABS)
  extract to this directory by entering it in at the 98lite
  prompt; default directory is C:\98lite

· copy all the files in the "\Win98" directory ONLY on your
  Windows 98 or 98SE CD to your the directory containing 98lite
  (do not copy the CHANNELS, OLS, TOUR or CONTENT subdirectories
  or their contents)

· if you intend installing 98micro or 98lite with the higher
  performance and lighter weight Windows 95 Explorer Shell
  desktop option (called the SLEEK desktop option in the
  installer) you will also need to copy the following three
  Windows 95 files to the setup files directory: 

  EXPLORER.EXE
  SHELL32.DLL
  COMDLG32.DLL

  These need to come from an original Windows 95 CDROM; 95a, or
  95b -- Windows 95c has integrated IE4 so files from 95c are
  not compatible. All three files should have version numbers in
  the form 4.00.XXXX  (NOT 4.72.XXXX or later) in the file
  properties dialog

· once the final Setup directory has all files copied to it,
  98lite will make a \98lite subdirectory to store the Windows 95
  shell and patched files so they will not need to be recopied
  or patched again (you may reuse this install directory again
  and again to clean reinstall Windows

· If you are not installing or re-configuring multiple systems,
  or do not require fast "Shell Swapping" you may safely delete
  this 98lite subdirectory and all the files it contains; 98lite
  will make it again whenever you install/reinstall the SLEEK
  Windows 95 desktop option keeping it saves the extra steps and
  makes "Shell Swapping" as a rapidly re-configurable option

Jeg har prøvet lidt af hvert når jeg skulle installere, både inde fra windows, ogude fra dos, med et ny formatteret c: drev. Når man skal installere skal man vælge hvordan man vil installere det, micro chubby osv. hvis man vælger micro så kræver det en 95cd. Der står også inde på deres side at f.eks. chubby er til dem som ikke ejer en win95 cd. Derfor installerede jeg den. Men den fylder, som der også står i readme ca. 110mb.

Jeg har tweaket en winXP og den booter faktisk lige så hurtigt som den nye win98. Så hvis man ikke akn få 98lite til at fylde ca. 16mb. så er der ikke meget ide i at bruge det.

He he...I see. Well, that's about all I can do, as I said I haven't got a computer which I can run a test on...However, I would love to see what you've done to tweek your XP system.

Jeg brugte et tool der hedder TuneUP. Med det kan man gå ind og ændre i alt det man vil i sit XP hurtigt og nemt. I programmet har jeg sat ALT til bedst perfamance fordi jeg ikke skal bruge XP til andet end myHTPC, IE, og nogle meget små tools. Jeg har også disabel alle services der kører som jeg ikke har brug for. Fjernet GUI boot, og mange andre ting. TuneUP er helt klart det tool som jeg har prøvet der er bedst til at tweake med.

Endvidere kan man gå ind på denne side http://www.tweakxp.com for at finde andre små ting til at få hurtige perfomance :-)

Well, I can write in English and Danish along with many other languages. However, I do prefer English for the reason that it is where I fell most secure, if I may, on the other hand this might be cause I am not Danish, if ye hadn't figured that out ;) (moved here few years ago and I must say it's a rather nice, quite and lovely, country.) :-D
