In the years 1820-1932 more then 300000 Danes migrated to America. There could be many reasons why young people felt tempted to leave their country, But they had to make a difficult decision. They had to say good bye to their families whom they might never see again and they had to be ready for a long sea journey for New York and an uncertain future in an unknown country where they didn’t know the language
Most Danes settled down as farmers on the prairie in the Midwest, From 1862 the American state offered free land for all who wanted to grow the prairie, and 160 acres sounded as a dream for a poor Danish boy form a small farm in Jutland. But they had to work very hard for many years before they could begin to se the fruits of their labour. One must wonder how so many survived and prospered.
It must have been a very lonely life, fare away form other people, far away form friends and family, far away from doctors, schools and cities. Many letters home tell about disappointments, sorrow and homesickness. Some Danes, craftsman especially, settled down in the big cities, but they also had to put up with tough conditions, overpopulated, unhealthy and dark accommodations in narrow streets intolerably hot in the summer and even worse in the winter

The father was a tradesman, and he was member of the town council; For/In three years he was also mayor. Shakespeare has certain attended in Stratford Grammar School, whom you still can see in the town, but we do not know much about what he was learning at the school. In 1582, when he was 18 years old, he married Ann Hathaway, who was 7-8 years older; she was the eldest daugther of a well-to-do farmer. Their first child was borned the year after, just the six month after the wedding; later they also got twins. There are several explanations of why Shakespeare travelled to London, but most of the explanations are anecdote from later time. Some research worker/scientist believes that he becomes a member of a theatrecompany, there was visiting in Stratford.
