It depends what you want to work with.
Access can also make applications based on  a database. MS SQL is just a database, but MUCH better than Access. If its just for making small personal databases such as video or CD catalogues then you cant go wrong with Access. At the same time you may get to know about SQL, the language which other relational databases work with.

Yderligere information:

Findes dansk \"toturial\" ?

Og for resten, hvad koster \"softvaren\" ?

Access is more than likely the most popular database for use with ASP. There will more than likely be more danish literature on Access than there is for MS SQL.
Access is costs FAR less than MS SQL, not sure what its cost for sure as there are so many versions at the moment, but about kr.3500 I would think, take a look at www.edbpriser.dk.

MS SQL would cost 5 to 10 times as much!

as far as I can see the price you will have to pay is k3.3481. This is because you need a full version and NOT an upgrade!

www.ravenholm.com has prices for MS SQL Server, although I think you may need to contact them to see exactly what you need!

Avatar billede terry Ekspert

And what about MSDE? also \"gratis\"? (Comes free with Access). MSDE is a \"desktop\" version of MS SQL Server. So getting Access also gets you MSDE so you can start working with MS SQL without having to purchase it.

MSDE has the same \"Motor\" as MS SQL and is included in Access so that its possible to make real MS SQL databases without having to invest in MS SQL. It doesnt have the MS SQL Enterprise manager (user interface) as it sall done through Access. Its optimized for about 6 users.

No thats NOT what I mean. The version of MS SQL which comes with Access (a fribee) is optimized for about six users. This means that as long as there are six úsers then performances will be best. If there are more than six users then performance decreases. This doesnt mean that only six users can use it at the same time.

Access has its own database, so it isnt necessary to use MSDE. Access allows 255 users(connections) at the same time.
As I have said previously, \"Access is more than likely the most popular database for use with ASP\" so yes you can use it.

What you have to remember is if you design your ASP pages correctly the user only connects to the database while performing an operation such as SELECT or UPDATE, and then closes the connection. So its VERY unlikely that there will be many connections open at the same time.
If your expecting hundreds of connection (to the database) NOT your WEB, then you should go for MySQL or MS SQL. But as your new to this, then I doubt it. So start with Access and then go fro the big cannons later!
