Apple lancerer redesignet MacBook og MacBook Pro

Apple lancerede her til aften langt om længe de nye MacBooks og MacBook Pro's. Som rygterne har fortalt i den seneste tid er de nye notebooks alle designet udfra en ny produktionsprocess og har fået en fælles "Precision aluminum unibody". Rygterne omkring et mystisk "Brick-produkt" var altså "bare" en ny produktionsmetode, hvor man skærer hele skallen til en MacBook ud i et stykke kvalitetsaluminium. Den ide har man arvet fra MacBook Airs design.

De nye MacBooks og MacBook Pro's leveres med en ny og større trackpad, med understøttelse af multi touch. Den nye trackpad er lavet af glas og hele overfladen fungerer som en stor knap. Den nye multitouch trackpad af glas byder på et 39 procent større tracking areal i forhold til de gamle. Den nye trackpad understøtter også flere knapper via software og har fået flere gestures foruden nye "four finger gestures".

Mest banebrydende er nok den nye chipset-arkitektur fra NVIDIA, som Apple er de første til at bringe på markedet, der for alvor skubber MacBook Pro frem i feltet og gør den fem til seks gange hurtigere end de gamle modellers grafikkort og chipsets formåede.

Konkret betyder det, at den nye MacBook Pro får to grafikkort, et integreret og et normalt grafikkort, henholdsvis NVIDIA 9400 og NVIDIA 9600M GT, der kører i såkaldt hybrid SLI mode. Så kan man veksle mellem de to kort alt efter behov. Det giver henholdsvis en batteritid på fire og fem timer alt efter om man kører med det ene eller det andet kort.

Den nye MacBook nøjes med NVIDIA 9400 integreret grafik hvilket skulle være langt hurtigere end de gamle og understøtte alle de nyeste spil.

Fælles for både MacBook og MacBook Pro er også skærmene, der har fået en iMac-lignende sort ramme omkring selve skærmen. Skærmene der nu er af glas leveres kun som glossy, noget Apple nedtonede som værende et problem. I stedet henviste man til, at man kunne justere brightness eller flytte sig.

Endelig er det muligt at fravælge en almindelig harddisk og i stedet købe sig til en SSD disk på 128 Gb i MacBook Pro

MacBook Pro 17 tommer nyder dog ikke godt af det nye design ifølge Apple. Den beholder det gamle udseende.
